Hayvend works in two ways: as an opportunity for people to buy art multiples from its network of vending machines; and a chance for artists to fill those machines, selling and promoting their work. Each box of work costs £2 and they are mixed together and sold randomly in the slot-style machines. Artist John Hayward started the project in 1995 with a single machine installed during an open studios weekend in Bristol. The network has since expanded to include machines in London, Huddersfield, Bristol and Paris and has featured the work of over 200 artists.
